On the Vampire’s Couch by E.A. Logan and Christopher Hamilton — Spoiler-Free Review (Indie Author Challenge 2026 # 10)
Excerpt: An interesting read if you’re looking for what is mostly a slice of life vampire story with some romance sprinkled in. It is the perfect fit for readers who want unique vampire lore mixed with dark, absurdist humor.
- My rating: 4/5
- Genre/vibe: Vampire Romance — Vampires • Couches (many, many couches) • Self-Control • Absurdist Humor
- Best for: Readers who want a “vibe-heavy” vampire tale with a side of interior design tragedy.
- Content notes: Accidental murder + body disposal.
Quick, Spoiler-Free Premise
A hundreds of years old vampire does his best to not give into his primal urges during numerous flings. Some don’t end the best, ruining his couches and requiring him to dispose of them (and the bodies) and get more couches in increasingly clever ways.
What Worked for Me
- WORKED: The internal conflict — The struggle against the vampiric need to drink blood is very well written.
- WORKED: Dark humor — I really enjoyed the absurdity of him being super possessive of his couches; it seems weird, but it’s actually a cool piece of dark humor.
What Didn’t Work for Me
- DIDN’T: Plot structure — I got about halfway through the book and didn’t know what the story was. It didn’t seem like any stakes were being formulated.
- DIDN’T: Forced pacing — When stakes were finally introduced, it seemed shoehorned in to move the story forward instead of organically building from an established plot.
The Moment That Stayed With Me (Still No Spoilers)
No single moment stood out more than the overall experience.
Who I’d Recommend This For
- If you like spice that’s not too spicy.
- If you enjoy vampires that are both unique and familiar.
- You enjoy a bit of absurdist humor lamenting the ruining of couches (again, it’s actually funny).
Who Might Want to Skip It
- You’re looking for explicit spice.
- You prefer a plot that evolves from the start of the book.
Final Thoughts + Rating
4/5. This is a compelling, vibe-heavy story that balances traditional vampire tropes with a hilarious, dark focus on the protagonist’s furniture. While the plot takes a while to find its footing and the eventual conflict feels a bit rushed, the writing surrounding the vampire’s internal struggle and his absurdist priorities makes it well worth the read.

What is the strangest “obsession” you’ve seen a supernatural character have that actually made them more relatable?
