  • Best for: Readers who want a gritty, high-spice vampire tale with an innovative magic system.
  • Content notes: Explicit sexual content and sensual power dynamics; Violence, blood, and gore; Psychological manipulation; Scenes of torture and emotional abuse; Themes of death, grief, and betrayal; Religious and occult symbolism; Supernatural possession and transformation; Power imbalances and immortal/mortal relationships.

Quick, Spoiler-Free Premise

Having lost everything, Decon offers himself up to a vampire and is changed, only to fall under the thrall of a different master. Together, they seek power while vowing not to become the very monsters they despise. However, the corruption of the power they desire may be more than they can resist.

What Worked for Me

  1. WORKED: Raw Emotional Impact — You can really feel the character’s raw emotions throughout their journey.
  2. WORKED: Innovative World-Building — The magic system is unique and lends itself well to the wonderful world-building.
  3. WORKED: Epic Scale — The story feels like it’s unfolding on a grand, epic scale.

What Didn’t Work for Me

  1. DIDN’T: Character Motivation — Motivation sometimes seems forced, though it isn’t a detriment to the overall story.

The Moment That Stayed With Me (Still No Spoilers)

The immediate buildup and subsequent heartrending swing of emotions sets the tone of this dark fantasy romance immediately and drags you right in. It establishes a high-stakes atmosphere that persists throughout the narrative.

Who I’d Recommend This For

  • People who love unique takes on magic and vampirism.
  • Readers who are comfortable with blood, gore, and high levels of spice.
  • Those looking to support an upstart indie author.

Who Might Want to Skip It

  • You have a low tolerance for blood, gore, or spice.
  • You prefer traditional tropes over unique magic systems.

Final Thoughts + Rating

4.5/5. This is a powerful dark fantasy romance that balances tactical combat with deep, palpable emotion. Having personally interacted with the author in a virtual live session, it was great to see that the ambitious world-building and unique sigil-based magic truly lived up to the hype. While some character motivations felt a little pushed by the plot at times, the sheer scale and heartbreak of the story make it a standout indie read.
