Portraying a deity in fiction is always a risk. The urban fantasy God trope usually depicts them as distant, arrogant, or completely detached from humanity. In The Spirit Saga, I wanted to go in the opposite direction.
This version of Jesus isn’t the polished figure you see in stained glass. He is a boots-on-the-ground general, tired from fighting a war that has lasted millennia. He is arguably the most powerful urban fantasy God character you’ll encounter, but he carries that power with a heavy heart. To see how he organizes the defense against the Dark Spirits, check out the Spirit Saga Bundle. You can also hear me discuss the “General Jesus” concept on TikTok.

The Dossier
In The Spirit Saga, Jesus is not a distant deity on a throne. He is a boots-on-the-ground general fighting a holding action against a cosmic threat.
He appears not as the westernized ideal, but as a scrawny, ragged Middle-Eastern wanderer. He possesses the Golden Aura of a God, capable of feats that defy the understanding of normal spirits. He is the one organizing the defense against the “Dark Spirits,” making hard choices and keeping secrets that weigh heavily on his soul.
Why You’ll Love Him
This interpretation of Jesus is deeply human despite his godhood. He is tired. He misses his friends. He is trying to save humanity from extinction, even if it means manipulating the spirits under his command.
